Cian Lynch has been named Limerick hurling captain for 2025, marking an end to Declan Hannon’s spectacularly successful stint in the role.

The appointment of Lynch, 29, was confirmed in a press release from the Limerick county board. William O’Donoghue will serve as vice-captain.

Hannon had held the Limerick captaincy role since late 2017. In his first year, 2018, Hannon became the first Limerick man to lift Liam MacCarthy since Éamon Grimes in 1973.

In all, Hannon led Limerick to five All-Ireland titles, seven Munster crowns and two Leagues, making him the most successful captain in inter-county hurling history.

He missed the 2023 win…
