Patients taking weight-loss jabs at clinic had ‘significant reduction’ in alcohol intake, study shows

The research was carried out by Medication Weight Loss Clinic in Dublin and analysed changes in alcohol use when patients with obesity were treated with Saxenda (liraglutide) and Ozempic (semaglutide).

Both medications are taken by injection either daily or weekly and have already proved highly effective for treating obesity and type 2 diabetes.

On average, alcohol intake among those being treated ­reduced from 12 to four units a week. There was no increase in alcohol intake among patients taking the medications, according to the findings.

Intake among heavier ­drinkers in the research fell from 23 units to eight units a week, a two-thirds reduction and an equivalent change from 12 to four pints.
