As X continued to alienate much of its user base in 2024, its decentralized competitor Bluesky has seen its user base expand almost nine times over, from 2.89 million to 25.94 million.
In its latest report, Bluesky has revealed how it’s been scaling up its content moderation strategies during 2024 amid the demands of a growing user base. While platforms like Facebook have controversially been cutting their third-party moderators to be replaced by a community model, Bluesky has increased its moderation team to roughly 100 moderators and says it will continue to hire more staff.
In 2024, users submitted 6.48 million reports to Bluesky’s moderation service, a 17x increase from 2023, when users submitted 358,000 reports total.
