Feedback System Speeds Up Stroke Treatment

Performance feedback reduces the time to endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in patients with ischemic stroke, according to a Dutch study.

METHODOLOGY:

  • The researchers conducted a stepped-wedge cluster randomized PERFEQTOS trial in the Netherlands, which included 4747 consecutive adult patients with ischemic stroke who underwent EVT between January 2020 and June 2022.
  • Hospitals started with usual care and were randomized in clusters to transition to the intervention every 6 months.
  • Performance feedback via an online dashboard was provided every quarter to the hospitals, which enabled quality improvement teams to develop, implement, and evaluate targeted action plans on the basis of benchmarked indicators of care.
