Birmingham City dedicated their hard-fought Women’s Championship win at Portsmouth at the weekend to Republic of Ireland midfielder Lily Agg, who is facing a lengthy spell out with an ACL injury.
On Saturday the Blues confirmed that 31-year-old Agg has suffered the dreaded knee injury. She has undergone surgery and now faces into a period of rehabilitation.
It’s terrible timing for Agg, who’d have hoped and expected to have been part of new Ireland head coach Carla Ward’s plans for next month’s Nations League games against Turkey and Slovenia.
She might miss out on a successful title push too.
