A former garda superintendent is suing the force after he was targeted in an internal investigation over a false allegation that €40,000 in cash was missing from the safe in his office.

Retired superintendent Kevin English, previously based in Carrick-on-Shannon in Co Leitrim, lodged the High Court action against the State on January 17.
