A Co Antrim father-of-five died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at his Co Antrim home amid warnings from health officials over the dangers of using portable generators following power outages.

Jason McKay, from outside Portrush, is believed to have died after inhaling fumes from a portable generator. He died on Sunday late morning at his home in the Craigahulliar area outside the north coast town.

The 35-year-old was in the garage at his home when he was found dead, according to local sources.

In a death notice, Mr McKay is described as the “dearly loved husband of Serena” and father of five children. The couple married in August last year.
