As the fourth day of Seanad election counts begins, the seats available in the new Seanad are starting to be filled.
Both university constituencies – the Dublin University/Trinity College constituency and the National University of Ireland constituency – have been concluded.
NUI’s three seats have been taken by incumbent Independents Michael McDowell, Rónán Mullen and Alice Mary Higgins.
Meanwhile, the Dublin University/Trinity College constituency’s three seats have also been filled by incumbent Independents Lynn Ruane and Tom Clonan, and Independent Aubrey McCarthy, who overcame Green Party candidate Hazel Chu in a closely fought battle.
