Gemini app launches with keyboard open on Android

Google Auto-Opens Keyboard in Gemini Chatbot for Faster Interactions

Google is making its experimental AI chatbot, Gemini, even more user-friendly with a subtle but effective change: the keyboard automatically opens when users launch the app on Android devices. This streamlining aims to reduce friction and encourage faster, more fluid conversations with the chatbot.

Previously, users had to manually tap the keyboard icon within the Gemini app to begin typing prompts. Now, with the keyboard readily available, users can start interacting with Gemini instantly. "Since Gemini’s homepage primarily functions as a greeting, there’s no loss in functionality with this change," explains Dr. Sofia Ramirez, Lead Product Manager for Gemini. This simplified interaction empowers users to quickly engage with Gemini without unnecessary taps or clicks.

This new feature is currently being tested by beta users on version 16.4.36 of the Google app. Interested users can join the beta program through a dedicated link on the Google Play Store.

While this update focuses on simplifying text-based interaction, Google continues to explore and develop diverse interaction methods for Gemini. Voice input remains a central feature, accessible with a single tap, and the platform recently introduced "Talk Live about this," a new shortcut that appears when users upload images or PDFs, allowing for more natural, conversational interactions similar to discussing something with a friend.

Dr. Ramirez emphasizes that Google remains committed to making Gemini a powerful and versatile tool for users. This ongoing dedication to refinement and innovation underscores Google’s vision for Gemini as a chatbot that not only understands but anticipates user needs, bridging the gap between human and machine communication.

The future of AI interaction appears bright, and Gemini, with its focus on seamless and intuitive experiences, is poised to play a significant role in shaping that future.
