Google has introduced a digital watermarking system called SynthID to discreetly label images that are generated or heavily edited by artificial intelligence. The technology embeds an imperceptible identifier into the pixels of AI-created or AI-modified photos, which humans cannot see but software can detect.
Unlike traditional visible watermarks or logos, Google’s invisible watermark does not alter the appearance or quality of the image. It is also designed to be robust, remaining intact even after common edits like cropping, filtering, or compressing an image.
