Google Messages Might Soon Integrate WhatsApp Video Calls

Google Messages may soon allow users to make WhatsApp video calls directly within the Messages app, according to code discovered in an APK teardown by Android Authority. This integration can simplify cross-platform communication while maintaining existing Google Meet functionality.

Currently, Google Meet is the default; the video call button in individual and group chats launches Google Meet. Recipients without Meet installed receive prompts to download the app.
