Dublin City Council has said it plans to “remove and destroy” key lock boxes – often used by short-term letting hosts – which are left chained to public bike racks or poles.

Lock boxes with a pin-coded compartment are frequently utilised by short term rental hosts and have become popular as landlords do not have to be there to meet guests in person.

Instead they provide them with the code and location of the box to obtain the key to the property.
