In an interview with The Guardian, Zelensky stated, “We will swap one territory for another.” He did not specify which territories Ukraine would seek in return but emphasized that all Ukrainian territories hold significance. Zelensky also stressed the vital importance of US involvement in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security. He stated, “Security guarantees without America are not real security guarantees.” He is set to meet US Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, a meeting that highlights the ongoing US pressure for a resolution to the war.
Concerns Over a Trump-Backed Deal
However, concerns remain about the terms of any potential deal overseen by former President Donald Trump. While Trump encourages a swift end to the conflict, Zelensky seeks robust security guarantees from Washington. Kyiv fears that a settlement lacking strong military commitments, such as NATO membership or peacekeeping troops, could allow Russia to regroup and launch another offensive.
Ukraine’s Economic Incentives: Reconstruction and Natural Resources
Zelensky aims to secure further US support by offering lucrative reconstruction contracts to American companies. “Those who are helping us to save Ukraine will renovate it,” Zelensky told The Guardian. “We can offer our partners possibilities that didn’t exist before to invest in them. For us it will create jobs, for American companies it will create profits.

Despite these diplomatic efforts, the war in Ukraine continues. Russia has been pushing aggressively in the eastern Donetsk region, capturing several settlements in the past year. The fighting has resulted in widespread destruction and human suffering.
