Ranveer Allahbadia, the popular Indian social media influencer, finds himself at the center of a raging controversy after remarks made on his YouTube show “India’s Got Latent” sparked outrage and led to multiple FIRs being filed across India.
The controversy stems from a clip circulating online where Allahbadia, known for his vast following and videos on topics like personal growth and self-improvement, made comments regarding “parents and sex” that many deemed inappropriate and offensive.
This sparked an immediate backlash, leading to accusations of promoting indecency and calls for action against Allahbadia. The furor escalated quickly with the Assam Police registering a case against him and four others, while the Maharashtra Cyber department and Mumbai Police launched parallel investigations.
Adding fuel to the fire, comedian Samay Raina, the other co-host of “India’s Got Latent,” also found himself in the crosshairs, receiving summons from both the cyber cell and Mumbai Police for questioning. Raina, currently in the United States, has requested more time to comply with the summons, highlighting the gravity of the situation involving a platform with a massive reach.
The Mumbai Police have intensified their efforts, recording statements from seven individuals, including influencer Apoorva Makhija, and summoning over 40 individuals, including Allahbadia, Raina, and producers to participate in the ongoing investigation. The seriousness of the case is evident in the cross-state collaboration, with an Assam police team visiting Mumbai to meet with Maharashtra cyber cell officials.
