Kanlaon Volcano emits ash, logs 29 volcanic quakes

Kanlaon Volcano, which straddles Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, on Saturday emitted ash twice and had 29 volcanic earthquakes, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The ash emission events lasted from four to eight minutes, PHIVOLCS said in its bulletin Sunday.

The volcanic earthquakes included one volcanic tremor which lasted eight minutes long.

On Saturday, Kanlaon Volcano emitted 2,625 tonnes of sulfur dioxide.

Voluminous plumes rising up to 1,500 meters tall were observed, indicating continuous degassing. The plumes drifted in the west and west-northwest direction.

Kanlaon Volcano’s edifice is inflated, PHIVOLCS said.
