Despite his claims, the odds of Mr McGregor being on the ticket to replace President Michael D Higgins appear extremely long.
A candidate must be nominated by 20 members of the Oireachtas or four local authorities in order to make a bid for Áras an Uachtaráin.
It is unlikely that Mr McGregor will meet these criteria.
