NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.—Harriette Mackenzie hit the floor, and the player who had thrown her down walked away without looking back. The coach for Columbia Bible College clapped, and said something to the coach of Vancouver Island University. And for a moment, the game — a little-noticed college women’s basketball game between the two best teams in this little seven-team conference in British Columbia — ground to a halt.
Was it frustration? Frustration happens: VIU had won the night before, and Mackenzie is the conference’s best player. As Mackenzie lay on the floor, CBC coach Taylor Claggett yelled at VIU coach Tony Bryce: She said, that’s what Harriette got for a knee to the head.
