French actor Gérard Depardieu is standing trial in Paris, accused of sexually assaulting two women during the filming of Les Volets Verts (The Green Shutters) in 2021.
Depardieu, 76, has been accused of inappropriate behaviour by around 20 women, but this is the first case to reach trial. He is the most high-profile figure in French cinema to face accusations amid the industry’s response to the #MeToo movement.
Anouk Grinberg, an actor who appeared in the film, has publicly supported the two women, saying producers who hired Depardieu knew they were “hiring an abuser.”
