Jays Roster Moves: Scherzer to IL, Lovelady DFA

That was quick.

Richard Lovelady has been DFAed after a pair of poor outings. I am generally against making decisions off 1.2 innings of work, but they need a fresh arm in the pen, and Lovelady didn’t show anything (including his time in spring training).

Mason Fluharty, a lefty, is up to take his spot. He had a good spring, 1.29 ERA in 7 innings, with 5 hits, 1 walk and 11 strikeouts. He seems like a better choice. Last year, Fluharty had a 3.28 ERA across three of the Jays’ minor league system levels.

I figured Max Scherzer would be placed on the IL to get us the fresh arm because I can’t see him making his next start. But I guess they don’t want to move that fast. I’m worried we won’t see him on the mound…
