Accessibility to Healthcare: A Priority in Chungbuk
Chungbuk Province is marking a notable achievement in its commitment to accessible healthcare. The province recently celebrated providing medical expense support to over 1,500 residents, demonstrating the program’s vital role in ensuring timely medical treatment for vulnerable populations.

Rapid Growth and Expansion of the Medical Support initiative
As its inception on January 9, 2023, the medical expense support program has rapidly expanded its reach. As of March 31,2025,a total of 1,506 residents have benefited from the initiative. the program’s success is further underscored by the increasing number of participating medical institutions, now totaling 266. This growth reflects the program’s effectiveness and the increasing demand for such support.
Breaking Down financial Barriers to Healthcare
The core objective of the medical expense support program is to alleviate the financial burden that often prevents vulnerable individuals from seeking timely medical care. The program offers interest-free loans of up to ₩3 million (approximately $2,300 USD) to cover medical expenses. This allows applicants to receive necesary treatment upfront and repay the loan over a period of 36 months, easing their financial strain.

Who Benefits from the Program?
The program prioritizes support for various vulnerable groups within Chungbuk Province. The distribution of applicants by category highlights the program’s focus on those most in need:
- Individuals with diseases: 644
- Seniors (over 65 years of age): 541
- Individuals with disabilities: 179
- National merit recipients: 61
- Families with multiple children: 56
- Second-class students: 23
- Single mothers: 2
Types of Medical Treatments Supported
The medical expense support program covers a wide range of treatments, ensuring that beneficiaries receive the necessary care for various health conditions. Some of the most common treatments supported include:
- Dental implants: 1134
- Spinal procedures: 107
- Hip replacements: 80
- Fracture treatment: 36
- Cardiovascular procedures: 22
- Cerebrovascular treatment: 17
- Cancer treatment: 11
- Gallbladder, liver, gastric, and cecum related treatments: 10
- Respiratory treatments: 5
- Obstetrics and gynecology treatments: 5
