There was an electricity in the air as Kenny Benarek and Oblique Seville stormed towards the finish line at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. Crossing the line neck-and-neck, both sprinters awaited the judgement of the timing system. In the end, it was point Bednarek.
The American sprinter, known affectionately as “Kung-Fu Kenny,” claimed victory in the first of two races in the men’s short sprint classification, registering a wind-legal time of 10.07 seconds to top the standings after day one of the Grand Slam Track Kingston on Friday, 4 April.
Beat in the final few metres of the race, Seville crossed the finish line second – a mere hundredth of a second behind Bednarek.
