Firefighters in Northern Ireland are tackling a number of wildfires with the recent dry spell creating a “tinderbox”.
NI Fire and Rescue Service Commander Danny Ard said a number of fires broke out over the weekend, one of which threatened to engulf homes and fire crews are still dealing with a significant blaze near Newcastle in Co Down.
At its height, 100 firefighters and 15 appliances were tackling a blaze along a 3km front.
It involved a large area of gorse and forestry and was first reported at around 5pm on Saturday between the villages of Hilltown and Rostrevor.
