Subsidized Housing for Journalists Not a Scheme to Silence Criticism, Minister Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Area is preparing 1,000 subsidized housing units for journalists, a move the ministry denies is part of the efforts to silence dissent against government programs, including the 3 million housing program.

“Well, they ought to (criticize the government programs),” said Ara on April 8, 2025, in his office, adding that it’s the journalist’s duty to convey factual news instead of palatable ones. 

“They can also give suggestions and solutions,” he added.
