Quarry Worker Dies in Dumper Accident
A 59-year-old worker lost his life in a tragic accident at a marble quarry in the Fantiscritti area of miseglia, Carrara. The incident occurred shortly after 8 AM when the dumper he was operating reportedly fell several meters, resulting in fatal injuries. Emergency services,including doctors,nurses,firefighters,and law enforcement,responded to the scene. Unfortunately, the worker was pronounced dead upon their arrival.
Mounting Concerns Over Workplace Fatalities
This latest incident has amplified existing anxieties regarding workplace safety in Italy. Simona Riccio, General Secretary of Filca-Cisl Toscana, emphasized the severity of the situation, citing alarming national statistics. In 2024, there were 1,090 workplace fatalities, an increase of 49 compared to 2023. The construction sector remains particularly vulnerable,accounting for 156 of these deaths. Additionally, there were 4,215 reported cases of accidents and 15,745 complaints of occupational diseases.
It is increasingly necessary to strongly relaunch our proposals to counter irregularities, for the defense and respect for collective agreements, for greater prevention and training, the strengthening of the controls, all actions to be undertaken to counter the risk of accidents and prevent the many accidents in construction sites.

Union Calls for Government Intervention
