Nurses’ Transfers Spark Protest at Émile Roux Hospital
A presentation unfolded this monday in front of the Émile Roux hospital in puy-en-Velay, as approximately 120 individuals voiced their support for seven nurses recently reassigned from the endoscopy unit. The core of the issue revolves around allegations of moral harassment against a physician, leading to a contentious work environment.
Allegations of Moral Harassment Trigger Internal Inquiry
The nurses, reportedly in conflict with a doctor accused of displaced behaviors
and moral harassment
according to union representatives, were moved to different departments. This action occurred while the doctor in question remains on staff, a decision that has fueled public outcry. The demonstration, punctuated by the clanging of pans, aimed to highlight what protesters perceive as unjust treatment.
Dr.Gilbert André, the rallyS organizer, expressed concern, stating, You are seven and we turn you brutally! Ah no, we mute you. I don’t want to see a drama in my establishment.
Hospital Director Julien Keunebroek maintains that the transfers do not constitute a disciplinary measure. He explained, We could not have continued these professionals to work together
due to a deleterious climate
identified during an internal investigation. However, union representatives have characterized the situation as resulting from displaced behaviors
on the part of the doctor, further alleging moral harassment.
Doctor Remains in post Amidst Ongoing Investigation
The fact that the accused doctor continues to practice is a significant point of contention. One demonstrator, identifying himself as Jean and the husband of one of the transferred nurses, voiced his frustration: My wife is one of the seven nurses. I saw him enter terrible psychological states.I tell myself that this doctor will continue to work like that.
While the doctor is currently under investigation by the medical board and subject to a report filed with the prosecutor, hospital management has confirmed that he will remain in his position until a judicial decision is reached. This decision has further inflamed tensions, with many questioning the hospital’s priorities.
Hospital Management Focuses on Service Continuity and Future Resolution
in response to the staff changes, hospital management is prioritizing the uninterrupted operation of the endoscopy service. To this end, at least three new nurses have been hired. Furthermore,a steering committee is slated to convene in 2025 with the goal of fostering a more serene
work environment.
The situation at Puy-en-Velay hospital underscores the challenges healthcare institutions face in addressing allegations of workplace harassment while maintaining essential services. The coming months will be crucial in determining the long-term impact of these events and the effectiveness of the hospital’s efforts to restore stability and trust.
