A New Chapter for “Sola in Deo Sors”

The alumni association “sola in Deo Sors” of the Cavanis Canova Institute of Possagno has recently appointed a new president, signaling a renewed commitment to fostering connections and opportunities for its members. The association, deeply rooted in the institute’s history as the 1920s and officially re-established in the 1980s, aims to build upon its legacy of supporting Cavanis Institute students.

Introducing the New Leadership

The newly formed board, comprised of ten councilors, has elected Alessandro Dal Bello as its president. Dal Bello, a 1996 graduate of the Liceo Classico and currently a prominent lawyer in Montebelluna, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Giampaolo Berton will serve as Vice President, and Michelangelo Favero as Secretary, rounding out the executive team.

I am going to hold this assignment with a strong sense of obligation,in continuity with what was done by the Past President and with the desire to continue to propose more and more initiatives for the students of the Cavanis Institute who has contributed to the formation of men and women of value.

Welcoming New Graduates and Fostering a Network

The association is actively engaging with recent graduates. On May 11th, new alumni will be invited to the Cavanis auditorium to receive their ex-pupil cards, granting them honorary membership in “Sola in Deo Sors” for their first year post-graduation. This initiative aims to encourage continued involvement and provide access to a valuable network of former students who embody the Cavanis spirit. Networking among alumni is crucial, as studies show that alumni networks can considerably boost career opportunities and professional development for recent graduates. Such as, platforms like LinkedIn have become essential tools for alumni to connect and support each other professionally.

Supporting Inclusion Through Community Engagement

“Sola in Deo Sors” is committed to community engagement. The association will be actively involved in the 6-inspired inclusion event on May 16th and 17th. This two-day event uses sports, music, and art to foster connections between individuals, families, associations, and businesses. Now in its fifth year, the event highlights the association’s dedication to creating a more inclusive and supportive community.

Investing in Future Generations: Scholarships and Internships

Looking ahead, the association plans to implement several key initiatives focused on student development. Two scholarships will be established in memory of Father Attilio Colotto, a beloved Italian and art history professor who passed away in 2006. These scholarships will recognise and support deserving students at the Liceo classico. Furthermore, the association is working to create internship opportunities for students in their final two years of secondary school. These internships will provide invaluable real-world experience, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in a corporate setting. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), students who complete internships are more likely to receive job offers upon graduation and frequently enough command higher starting salaries.

Strengthening Alumni Bonds and Reviving Traditions

Beyond supporting current students, “Sola in Deo sors” aims to strengthen the bonds between its alumni. The association plans to reinstate the customary annual alumni party, tentatively scheduled for the end of November. This event will provide a platform for former students to reconnect, reminisce, and forge new relationships.Additionally, the association is exploring the revival of a theater group, building upon the theatrical experiences shared by alumni during their time at the Cavanis Institute.

In addition to the creation of opportunities for students, we also intend to strengthen the ties between the ex-daily through the re-institution of the traditional annual party of the former pupils Cavanis, which we would like to set for the end of November.Last but not least, there is also a group of theater, on the still hot ashes of experiences experienced among the school desks of our Cavanis.
