Following a notable power outage that impacted Spain and Portugal, data indicates a ample increase in the utilization of SpaceX‘s Starlink services. According to a report by the Daily Financial Times, analyzing data from Ookla’s Speedtest platform, Starlink usage jumped by 35% compared to the average since april 28th, the day the blackout began.

On the Tuesday following the initial disruption, Starlink usage in Spain alone exceeded the average by over 60%. This surge underscores the value of satellite internet when terrestrial networks are compromised.
