A garda has been killed in the line of duty while carrying out a speeding checkpoint in north county Dublin.
The incident happened in Lanestown, Co Dublin earlier today.
The garda was 49 years of age and had two young children.
A motorcyclist has also been seriously injured in the incident.
He has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical.

Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene on the R132 at Lanestown, Co Dublin.
The road is closed and local diversions are in place.
