In the discussion about the future financing of Thuringian universities, the left-wing parliamentary group proposes new incentives to train vocational school teachers. In the future, the state should support cooperations in the university area more than before, said the Left Group Chairman Christian Schaft of the German Press Agency. For example, the universities of applied sciences could work with the universities to train new vocational school teachers. The universities of applied sciences had an important expertise, for example in the commercial and technical area, which has so far remained unused.

In order to enable such cooperation, start -up financing from the country is usually needed, said Schaft. It is similar, for example, when different universities wanted to work together in the IT area. This would also result in costs for the facilities, which they could usually not finance themselves, but which paid off in the long term. “If the universities say that they are ready to develop new formats, then you should also get the relevant start -up financing.”

The potential of the universities of applied sciences remains unused

In Thuringia, it has long been thinking about how university financing is to be designed in the next few years. In this context, the design of a new framework agreement between the country and the universities is discussed.

Minister of Education Christian Tischner (CDU) had already made it clear that he wants to oblige the teachers to train the teachers in return for certain funds from the state to train more educators in the future. So far, the universities in Jena and Erfurt are essentially responsible for teacher training in Thuringia, where there are the corresponding courses. For some teaching subjects, there are already cooperation between these universities with the University of Music in Weimar.

Time pressure in the framework agreement grows

Schaft considers Schaft to be ambitious that the new framework agreement can be decided this year to further finance Thuringian universities this year. “If time is not lost now, then I can imagine that this is realistic,” he said. The universities urgently need planning security for financing in the next few years. “The problem must not be postponed.”

Teachers are not only lacking at the general education schools in Thuringia. Additional educators are also desperately sought at many vocational schools.
