Detection of DENV in Aedes albopictus during the 2024 sporadic dengue outbreak in Wuhan city, Hubei Province, China | Virology Journal

Case report and results of the epidemiological investigation

Three suspected autochthonous dengue cases were reported in Wuhan in late September and early October 2024. On September 24, one dengue fever case (case 1) was reported in Jiang’an district, Wuhan, presenting with fever and muscle and abdominal pain. Infection with DENV-2 was then confirmed via pathogen-targeted sequencing (tNGS). Case 1 had traveled to only Huanggang, a city adjacent to Wuhan, in the previous 14 days. On September 29, a second case (case 2) was reported about 800 m away from the residence of the first case, with similar symptoms, and this patient was confirmed to be infected with DENV-2.
