Forensics will play a key part in the investigation going forward and this is being undertaken on a large volume of items and material removed from the farm over the past week, according to garda sources.
This includes several tools including a chainsaw which gardaí believe may have been used to dismember the Kerry farmer.
On Sunday night Gardaí confirmed that the human remains discovered on the farm are that of Michael Gaine. It had been just over a week since the discovery of these remains and while gardaí has been working on the assumption that they were those of Mr Gaine final DNA results were awaited to confirm this.
