Last week, an Instagram clip from an episode of CBC’s Dragons’ Den sparked a debate in the Jamaican Canadian community around how much a Jamaican patty should cost.
The clip centres around Pierre St. Rose, who pitched the Dragons on Crumbs, his Toronto-based brand of gourmet Jamaican patties. When he said that he prices his patties from $5 to $10, Wes Hall — a Dragon who is also Jamaican — scoffed at the pricing.
“No, I don’t want to pay more than two bucks for a patty,” Hall retorted.
