The Foreign Minister has said Donald Trump’s threats of tariffs would “rip up” an EU-US trade deal struck last year, as political leaders reacted to the US president’s threats to take over Greenland.
Mr Trump has said he will hit eight European allies with 10 per cent tariffs from February 1st unless they agree to his purchase of Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory, and has refused to rule out using military force to seize the island.
Speaking on their way into cabinet on Tuesday, Helen McEntee said the was “deeply regrettable” and Taoiseach Micheal Martin said he hoped “common sense will prevail”.
