A 19-year-old student from Kerala was found dead at the hostel campus in Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) campus in Kandigai, near Chennai, on Friday. Police said it is a case of suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Abin Rafiq from Kerala. He was studying the Bachelor of Engineering-AI course in the campus. Police sources said that the student had insufficient attendance and was involved in certain malpractices, following which the college management did not permit him to appear for the semester examination. He was allegedly depressed after lecturers scolded him for his poor performance and attendance.
