The Style Council began as a partnership between singer-songwriter Paul Weller and keyboardist Mick Talbot. The core of the band was later expanded to include drummer Steve White and vocalist Dee C Lee. Prior to the formation of The Style Council, Weller and Talbot had worked together on The Jam’s 1979 album Setting Sons. Talbot played piano on several of that album’s tracks and was billed in the album credits as “Merton Mick.” Talbot also performed in concert with The Jam several times as part of an expanded live lineup of the band.
