Two Women Shot in Separate Incidents Across the U.S.

Multiple shootings involving women occurred across the United States this week, resulting in fatalities in Tennessee and Arkansas, and a death following a standoff in Pennsylvania. Authorities are investigating each incident.

Fatal Shooting in Shelby County, Tennessee

A woman was fatally shot Monday night at an apartment complex in southeast Shelby County, Tennessee, during what authorities are calling a domestic dispute. According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), deputies responded to a homicide investigation at Centennial Gardens Apartments off Hacks Cross Road and Highway 385 around 6:15 p.m. FOX13 Memphis reports that a woman shot another woman in the parking lot of the complex.

The victim was transported by a man to Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Witnesses reported hearing yelling and gunshots, followed by a vehicle speeding away. Deputies found spent shell casings and evidence of damage to several cars. One woman was detained by authorities, but it is currently unknown if she is connected to the shooting. The SCSO is continuing to investigate and has not yet announced any arrests. WREG also reported on the incident.

Woman Arrested After Threatening Residents in Arkansas

In St. Francis, Arkansas, a woman was arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot several people at an apartment building. Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole stated that deputies were called to the Oak Tree Apartments on Monday just after 6:15 p.m. KAIT8 reports that the dispute began when a man’s father arrived to repossess a vehicle.

Debra Seth Kellums, 57, of Hornersville, Missouri, is being held in the Clay County Detention Center on one count of aggravated assault. During the argument, Kellums allegedly pulled out a weapon believed to be an AK-47 and threatened those present. Deputies stopped Kellums and the man’s father on Highway 139 and found a 12-gauge shotgun with a 12-round magazine in the vehicle.

Woman Dies After Shooting During Standoff in Pennsylvania

Jonette Crossley, 43, died after being shot during a standoff in Montoursville, Pennsylvania, last week. According to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr., Crossley was declared brain dead on Saturday at UPMC Williamsport. The Sun-Gazette reports that Crossley was a candidate for organ donation, and her lungs, heart, and kidney may be used to save lives.

Johnnie Drummond, 43, of Norwood, Delaware County, has been charged with shooting Crossley after taking her hostage in her apartment on February 10th. Montoursville police initially went to the apartment to check on Crossley’s welfare and heard voices inside after returning later that evening. Shots were fired, and numerous officers responded, including the city police department’s Special Response Team. After several hours of negotiation, officers entered the apartment, and another exchange of gunfire occurred. Drummond is currently jailed without bail on charges of attempted homicide and related offenses.
