Kent succeeds Burns to become 42nd GAA president

Wexford’s Derek Kent will succeed Jarlath Burns to become the 42nd uachtarán after delegates voted in the opening session of the 2026 GAA Congress.

Kent claimed 169 out of the 277 votes, easily surpassing the quota of 139 to see off Tipperary’s Ger Ryan (76) and John Murphy (32) of Sligo to claim victory on the first count.

Kent will assume the role of uachtarán tofa until Burns’ term comes to an end in February 2027, from which point on the Taghmon-Camross clubman will lead the association.

Kent served as Wexford county chair from 2017 to 2020 and has been Leinster chair since 2023.
