New Six Nations trophy required after fire damage

The Six Nations trophy is to be “retired from ceremonial use” after sustaining fire damage when its transit vehicle caught fire during Round 3 of this year’s tournament.

An “identical exhibition trophy” is set to be used for the remainder of the championship, with a new one being commissioned in time for the 2027 Six Nations.

The fire, reported to have taken place in Ireland, led to no injuries but after assessment by the trophy manufacturer, it was concluded that it was unable to be returned to its full presentation standard.
