Canadiens Benefit from Panthers’ Win Over Red Wings
The Florida Panthers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 in Detroit on Friday, indirectly aiding the Montreal Canadiens in the Atlantic Division standings.
A Red Wings loss prevents them from extending their lead over the Canadiens. Had Detroit won, they would have gained a four-point advantage over Montreal, which currently holds the first position among teams vying for a playoff spot in the Eastern Association. The Canadiens now trail Detroit by only two points, with three games in hand.
Montreal was scheduled to play against the Anaheim Ducks on the same evening.
Tkachuk Leads Panthers to Victory
Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk was the standout performer in the game, scoring all three of his team’s goals to secure the hat trick. He opened the scoring midway through the first period, regained the lead for his team early in the third and completed his hat trick with a goal into an empty net.
Alex DeBrincat scored the lone goal for the Red Wings.
Playoff Implications
With 65 points, the Panthers are now eight points away from securing the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
