Triathlon Results Roundup: Alvarez Solis Shines in La Paz, Beaulieu and Michel Claim North American Titles
International racing ramped up at the weekend with multiple events taking place around the world. Newly crowned continental champions were on show in Africa while a multiple World Cup medallist got his season off to a promising start in Mexico. Here’s a look at the key results.
Americas Cup La Paz
In a crowded women’s field in La Paz, Mexico, home athlete Marcela Alvarez Solis proved unstoppable over the sprint distance, winning the gold medal in 54 minutes and 16 seconds. Alvarez Solis’s path to gold wasn’t easy, as she initially found herself in a chase pack.
Kelly Wettland (USA) and Alexandra Campbell (CAN) led the swim, gaining over 30 seconds on their challengers. Alvarez, alongside Margareta Vrablova (SVK) and Ana Maria Valentina Torres Gomez (MEX), worked to reel in the leaders on the bike. Though they closed the gap, Wettland maintained a 10-second lead heading into the final transition.
Alvarez ultimately secured victory with a fast 5km run split of 16:07, winning by 24 seconds. Wettland took silver and Torres beat Vrablova by 3 seconds for the bronze medal.
In the men’s race, World Cup medallist Mathis Beaulieu (CAN) dominated, winning in a time of 14:14 for the 5km run. He initially fell behind after the swim, but an attack on the bike with Keller Norland (USA) place him in contention. Blake Bullard (USA) finished second with a 14:12 run split, and Norland took bronze.
North Americas Junior Championships La Paz
Regina Michel Camacho (MEX) also had a strong showing in La Paz, winning the North American junior title with a time of 17:01 for the 5km run. She controlled the race from the lead pack, finishing 43 seconds ahead of Avalyn Thompson (USA), with Argelia Pérez Olivera (MEX) completing the podium.
Graham Hummel (USA) was equally assertive in the men’s race, winning with a time of 8:02 for the 750m swim and a 15:16 5km run. He and Luis Miguel Chávez Sanchez (MEX) led from the front on the bike, establishing a significant lead. Jesus Daniel Hernández Bobadilla (MEX) won a tense finale for the bronze medal, finishing just 1 second ahead of his nearest competitor.
World Triathlon Development Regional Cup Salinas
Zoe Adam (PUR) won her second Development Regional Cup of the season and her third in a row, claiming gold by over 3 minutes with top splits in all three disciplines (10:06 swim, 34:07 bike, 18:22 run). Isabella Fernandez and Valentina Sofia Negron completed a Puerto Rican sweep of the podium.
Gerlad Rojas Carvajal (CRC) won the men’s race, opening his season with a victory. He posted a 16:03 5km run split, beating Jorge Raul Cabinal Gramajo (GUA) and Samuel Zuluaga Cardona (COL).
Africa Cup Ebotse
Robin Dreijling (NED) and Gjalt Panjer (NED) secured double Dutch joy at the Africa Cup in South Africa. Dreijling won the women’s race, working with Rebecca Beti (SUI) on the bike before finishing with a 17:47 5km run. Katrin Maes (BEL) took silver, and Julia Hauser (AUT) claimed bronze with the best run of the day (17:11).
Panjer won the men’s race, benefiting from a strong front group. He won by 30 seconds over Fabian Schönke (GER), with Justus Töpper (GER) taking bronze.
Africa Junior Cup Ebotse
South African athletes dominated the Africa Junior Cup in Ebotse, locking out the top-9 positions. Taylor Foster (RSA) won by almost 6 minutes, with Karli Lotter (RSA) and Dayla Swartz (RSA) taking silver and bronze, respectively.
Nathan Max Centlivres Chase (NAM) added gold to his recent Africa Junior Championships win, finishing with a 16:55 5km run. Ryan Viviers (RSA) finished second, and Nicholas Horne (RSA) used a 16:20 run split to take third.
Around the World
Tokyo PTWC Paralympic champion Kendall Gretsch (USA) won a silver medal at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina in the women’s 7.5km sitting sprint. Paris PTWC Paralympic champion Lauren Parker (AUS) finished 13th in the same race.
