Immersive Art and Sound Collide at 180 Studios’ Extended ‘Reverb’ Exhibition

London’s 180 Studios has extended its popular exhibition, Reverb, due to high demand, now running until March 2, 2025. The exhibition showcases 17 audiovisual installations, including new works by prominent artists such as Es Devlin and Theaster Gates, alongside the return of Devon Turnbull’s celebrated Listening Room. The Vinyl Factory and 180 Studios collaborated on this immersive experience.

A Celebration of The Vinyl Factory’s Legacy

Reverb celebrates 20 years of commissions and collaborations by The Vinyl Factory, featuring site-specific audio-visual installations and sonic experiences. Artists featured include Carsten Nicolai, Jeremy Deller, Kahlil Joseph, Julianknxx, Stan Douglas, and the late Virgil Abloh. 180 Studios highlights the breadth of these artistic partnerships.

Featured Installations and Artists

The exhibition includes UK premieres of artworks by Cecilia Bengolea, William Kentridge, Jenn Nkiru, Hito Steyerl, and Gabriel Moses. A dedicated space displays 100 vinyl records created by artists and released by The Vinyl Factory, featuring releases from Nan Goldin, Arthur Jafa, Pipilotti Rist, Mica Levi, Marina Abramovic, Grace Jones, Massive Attack, and many others.

Devon Turnbull’s Hi-Fi Listening Room Dream No.1

Devon Turnbull’s Hi-Fi Listening Room Dream No.1 offers a meditative space to experience vinyl, with a rotating program of rare and exclusive music. The space has hosted listening sessions with artists like Haseeb Iqbal and Charlie Dark.

Theaster Gates’ ‘Amplified’

A new installation by Theaster Gates, titled Amplified, functions as a sonic installation during the day and transforms into a live performance space at night. Performances are recorded and pressed direct-to-disc on The Vinyl Factory Lathe. Curated in partnership with Alaska Alaska and Reference Point, Amplified has featured performances by Ragz Originale, Jamilah Barry, Kokoroko, and Fabiana Palladino. Access to these performances is invite-only, with opportunities to win tickets through 180 Studios’ Instagram page. Theaster Gates is known for blurring the boundaries between art, architecture, and community engagement.
