Tkachuk late winner to give Senators clutch home win over Islanders

OTTAWA — Brady Tkachuk put away the winner with 11.1 seconds left to play to lead the Ottawa Senators past the New York Islanders 3-2 on Thursday.

Tkachuk grabbed a loose puck in the crease and squeezed it past Ilya Sorokin as Ottawa rallied from a 1-0 and then a 2-1 deficit.

Shane Pinto had a short-handed goal to tie the game 1-1 for the Senators (35-24-9) in the second period and then Warren Foegele backhanded the puck past Sorokin 5:12 into the third period to tie it 2-2.

Rookie sensation Matthew Schaefer opened the scoring for the Islanders (39-25-5) early in the second period and Brayden Schenn beat Ottawa goalie James Reimer five-hole to tie it 1-1 2:02 into the third period.
