The tower granted permission: “Truck 1, crossing the runway at Point Delta.” Shortly after, Frontier Flight F94195, heading to Miami, was instructed to stop by the tower.
The tower controller urgently commanded the fire truck to stop multiple times, followed by rapid beeps in the recording. Immediately after, the controller instructed Delta flight DL2603, which was approaching to land at 2000 feet, to initiate a takeoff. The Delta crew acknowledged the instruction.
Aftermath and Investigation
Communication with the CRJ900, Jazz 646, was then attempted. The controller noted the collision and instructed the aircraft to hold its position, stating, “I realize you can’t move.” Multiple vehicles on the apron requested and received clearance to move onto runway 04. The pilot of Jazz 646 repeatedly reported that runway 04 was closed. Neither the aircraft nor the fire truck responded further.
CNN reported that a flight attendant survived the crash and was found strapped into her seat outside the plane.
