One person was killed and several others were wounded by an Iranian ballistic missile fired at central Israel late Friday, marking the sixth attack launched by Iran on the country throughout the day.
The missile carried a cluster bomb warhead, dispersing bomblets across a wide area. One bomblet impact killed a man in his 60s who was not in a bomb shelter, and another submunition struck a residential building, lightly wounding two men in their 50s, according to police and Magen David Adom.
The Fire and Rescue Service responded to six sites impacted by submunitions from the missile.
Earlier Friday evening, medics reported two light injuries in the Kuseife area of southern Israel caused by falling fragments following the interception of an Iranian ballistic missile.
Magen David Adom (MDA) treated a 37-year-old man and a woman in her 20s for shrapnel wounds, transporting them to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
Iran again targeted the south with a ballistic missile salvo launched early Saturday, triggering sirens in Beersheba and surrounding towns, before attacking the north and center of the country with two more volleys later in the day. No injuries were reported in Saturday’s attacks.
The deadly attack occurred as Israel continued strikes in Iran, including early Saturday in Tehran against “targets of the Iranian terror regime.” This attack brings the total number of Israeli civilians and foreign nationals killed in Israel by Iranian ballistic missiles to 16, along with four Palestinians in the West Bank.
In total, nine missiles carrying conventional warheads have struck populated areas in Israel, causing extensive damage in at least six instances. There have been over 30 incidents of missiles carrying cluster bomb warheads impacting populated areas, resulting in more than 150 separate impact sites.
