On a remote property at the foothills of Victoria’s vast alps, police shot dead fugitive Dezi Freeman as he refused to surrender.
Victoria Police confirmed a man was killed at a rural address in the state’s northeast shortly after 8.30am on Monday (local time) as part of the operation to locate the gunman.
Chief Commissioner Mike Bush said police were unable to officially confirm the person was Freeman, pending a formal identification process.
“We believe it is Freeman,” Bush said.
“This brings closure to what was a tragic and terrible event.”
