Olivia Rodrigo Announces Third Album, ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So in Love’
Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo has officially announced the release of her highly anticipated third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love, set to drop on June 12th via Geffen Records. The announcement follows weeks of teasing and anticipation from fans, signaling a new era for the 23-year-old artist.
A Shift in Tone and Aesthetic
Rodrigo revealed in her newsletter that the album is filled with “sad love songs,” acknowledging a recurring theme in her songwriting. She noted, “No matter how hard I attempt to write love songs they always come out laced with a little melancholy.” This contrasts with the titles of her previous albums, 2021’s Sour and 2023’s Guts, which were each single words.

The album’s cover art features Rodrigo swinging upside down in a baby pink dress, a visual shift from the purple hues associated with her previous work. This color change was foreshadowed by a purple mural in Los Angeles that was later painted pink with the word “love” added, signaling the new aesthetic direction.
Production and Recent Work
Like her first two albums, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love was recorded with producer Dan Nigro. Prior to the album announcement, Rodrigo released a live album, Live at Glastonbury (A BBC Recording) in December 2025, capturing her performance at the Glastonbury festival. She also contributed a cover of The Magnetic Fields’ “The Book of Love” to the charity compilation album HELP(2), benefiting War Child UK.
Fan Engagement and Album Teasers
Rodrigo engaged her fanbase, known as “Livies,” throughout the album’s build-up. Social media campaigns included hashtags like “#OliviaIsComing” and “#OR3,” and a cryptic hotline message alluding to the April 2nd pink moon, encouraging fans to “trust your intuition.” She also cleared her Instagram feed, leaving only the album announcement as her sole post.
You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love is now available for pre-order.
