Last Ditch Lesbian Bar Closes After Mask Policy Backlash

The Last Ditch bar in Greenfield, Massachusetts, is soft closing and seeking new owners after facing intense backlash. The LGBTQ+ establishment went viral following a decision to relax its strict Covid protocols by lifting its mask mandate one night a week on Saturdays. Management announced the end of regular operating hours while stating that previously booked events will continue through the winter. The sudden closure creates an urgent search for fresh leadership to save the prominent queer space.

   Why it matters

Specialized queer venues hold deep historical and social significance for the LGBTQ+ community, making the loss of such physical meeting places critical. The establishment gained national attention due to its prominent Covid-conscious stance before attempting to adjust those rules. The subsequent community friction underscores the ongoing challenges independent venues face balancing public health policies with shifting patron expectations.
