Super Smash Bros. Switch 2 Leaks Persist After Direct
Unverified reports suggest a new Super Smash Bros. game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Speculation points toward a brand new entry in the series rather than an upgraded port of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. These leaks circulated prior to Nintendo's recent September Direct presentation. That showcase ultimately omitted any mention of a new Smash title or a rumored 3D Mario game from its winter lineup. The franchise now faces an uncertain future as fans await official announcements regarding the next installment on Nintendo hardware.
Why it matters
Nintendo's September Direct focused on upcoming winter titles for the original Switch and its successor, the Nintendo Switch 2. The presentation followed a dedicated Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct held the previous day. While the hardware supports backward compatibility and physical cartridges, unconfirmed roster leaks and revival claims remain unaddressed by official channels.
What is confirmed
- Nintendo held a September Direct presentation showcasing games launching this winter for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
- The September presentation did not include any announcements for a new Super Smash Bros. title or a 3D Mario game.
- The Nintendo Switch 2 supports physical cartridges and digital games purchased through the Nintendo eShop.
Still unconfirmed
- A new game in the Super Smash Bros. series is currently in development as an entirely new entry rather than an enhanced port of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Switch 2.
- Previous leaks claimed a new Smash roster and a Nintendogs revival were planned for the platform.
