Microsoft Releases Windows 11 26H2 Update

Microsoft has officially released Windows 11 version 26H2, the 2026 edition of the operating system. The update introduces a movable taskbar, search functionality without Bing, and makes Windows settings backup the default setting. Performance improvements include the Low Latency Profile for more PCs, which some users report reduces RAM usage and increases speed. However, the update contains a known audio bug affecting applications and games that utilize Dolby Digital AC-3 decoding, which can lead to system crashes. Microsoft has also provided an alternate method for users to download and install the update.

   Why it matters

This release follows a period of slow feature rollouts that left some users without desired customization options. By addressing specific user complaints regarding the taskbar and search, Microsoft aims to improve the overall user experience. The inclusion of performance profiles suggests a shift toward optimizing resource efficiency.
