FORMER president Rodrigo Duterte’s resounding election victory in Davao City carries no weight in the eyes of international justice, a lawyer for the families of victims in his bloody war on drugs said Thursday.
“Elections do not erase or forgive the commission of crimes against humanity in the Philippines by Duterte and his co-conspirators,” said Kristina Conti, assistant counsel at the International Criminal Court (ICC). “The people of Davao City cannot speak on behalf of all the victims of the ‘war on drugs’ and other atrocities committed nationwide.”
